If you enjoy ancient history and mythology, Greece is an enthralling place to visit. The country is steeped in ancient history, and ruins and old artefacts can be seen on much of the mainland as well as surrounding islands. The world renowned Acropolis in Athens is the best known acropolis in the world and is home to several ancient buildings and ruins which can still be seen today.

Probably one the most recognised buildings on the Acropolis is the Parthenon. The Parthenon is an ancient temple of the Greek goddess Athena and is regarded as one of the most important surviving buildings of Greek history. The Parthenon housed several statues and friezes which can today be seen in the Acropolis museum. This museum tells the fascinating history of the country through various works of arts and historical remnants.

The Acropolis is home not only to the Parthenon and the museum, but to several other important historical ruins. Old theatres, temples and altars can all be found on the huge acropolis overlooking the city of Athens. The legacy left behind these sites is fascinating and tells an amazing story of the Greek culture and heritage.
