Shark Bay is located approximately 850 kilometres north of Perth in Western Australia. This amazing area was recognised as a world heritage site in 1991, and is one of the most exceptional places in the world. The beautiful landscape includes several small islands and islets, sheer cliffs and beaches and is home to plant and animal life seldom seen in other areas of the world.
The shallow waters of Shark Bay shelters some of the most amazing marine life, including the rare dugongs, as well as manta rays, whales, turtles and the renowned dolphins of Monkey Mia. These dolphins come right up to the beach to interact with visitors and are an amazing site to behold. People visiting Shark Bay can also enjoy shark, dolphin and whale spotting tours, as well as snorkelling through the crystal clear waters of the bay.
Shark Bay has been home to aboriginal people for thousands of years, and cultural tours are available for visitors. Bush walks around the bay gives visitors the chance to see rare bird and mammal species, as well as the opportunity to learn about various traditions and customs of the aborigines. Shark Bay offers a great range in the way of activities, nature and beauty, and if given the chance should not be missed.
