The Bazaruto Archipelago is a beautiful national park in Mozambique. The archipelago consists of five main islands offering visitors pristine turquoise seas and white-sand beaches in a tropical paradise setting.
The five main islands are Bazaruto, Benguera, Magaruque, Santa Carolina and Bangué. They are green and tropical islands unspoiled by time and change. The islands remained untouched by the ravages of war in the rest of Mozambique and are home to a population of 3500 people. Mozambique has built itself up since the wars and is becoming increasingly popular for visitors. Thus far the country has remained unspoiled by tourism, although you may want to visit soon to witness the pristine environment before development.
Tropical birds are plentiful dotting the skies in their multitudes. For nature lovers, this preserved landscape is phenomenal, and highly enjoyable. Nile crocodiles can be seen sunning themselves on the rocks of the archipelago giving testament to the former connection of the islands to the mainland. Dugongs graze the sea grass beds, and can be seen slowly moving through the waters. The coral reefs around the Bazaruto Archipelago are thriving and the clear waters are home to many colourful fish and sea life.
