Stockholm is the largest city in Sweden, as well as the capital. It is situated over several hundred islands known as the Stockholm Archipelago, which makes it such a unique and interesting place to visit.
In the centre of Stockholm is the Old Town, or Gamla Stan which was originally built between the years1300 and 1500 on one of the central islands. This idyllic town features many of the old buildings and cobble stoned roads and is home to many unique shops and cafes. This area still has many of the medieval street layouts and there are some interesting architectural sites that are worth visiting.
The islands of Stockholm each feature different buildings, museums, and sites worth an outing to. The city centre is modern with hundreds of shops, restaurants and cafes. Wherever you walk, you will be crossing bridges from one small island to the next and can enjoy the spectacular views on the way. Visitors can choose to take buses, boats or the subway to the surrounding islands which are all pleasant ways to see some of the country.
